Microgreen Seeds
Microgreens have seen their introduction in the restaurant scene in the 1980’s and have since steadily gained popularity.
These aromatic greens, or fondly referred to as vegetable confetti, are rich in flavour adding a welcome splash of colour and burst of fragrant taste to a variety of dishes. They vary in taste and depending on the variety, could range from neutral to spicy, slightly sour or sometimes bitter, but always considered strong and concentrated.
Despite being “micro”, they absolutely packed with nutritional punch. They often contain higher nutrient levels than more mature vegetable greens which makes them a good addition to any diet.
Microgreens should not be confused with sprouts. Sprouts have a much shorter growing cycle of 2 to 7 days, whereas microgreens are usually harvested once the plant’s first true leaves have emerged, usually 7 to 21 days after germination.
Sprouts, equally nutritious, are one the best foods to help lose weight. They are high in nutrients but have negligible kilojoules which means that you can consume sprouts without fretting about the bathroom scale. They contain a high amount of fibre which will sustain you for a longer period of time.
