Chasmanthe is a genus of flowering plants in the iris family which originate from South Africa. In their native habitat the flowers are pollinated by sunbirds. The genus name is derived from the Greek words chasme, meaning "gaping", and anthos, meaning "flower". Growing to 1m with primrose yellow flowers in winter. Dormant in summer. Attractive doing well in sunny and shady areas. USDA Zone - 8 Season to Sow - Autumn Photos with credit to the late Rod and Rachel Saunders, eminent experts on South African indigenous flora. |
