Red Rubin Basil - Herb - 100 Seeds

Basil ‘Red Rubin’ is a purple version of Italian large leaf basil, a multi-purpose variety that is one of the mainstays of many herb gardens. The fine traditional flavour and aroma along with purple red leaves and beautiful lavender-pink flowers make this basil an outstanding culinary and ornamental variety. Distinguished from other purple basils by its sweeter aroma and excellent flavour, the rich, dark purple leaves are more consistent in colour than some of the other purple basils. The leaves make an exciting contrast in salads, pasta dishes and make an excellent vinegar. The flavour pares well with fish, poultry, rice, mild vegetables, eggplant and many others. Basil ‘Red Rubin’ is a 1992 All America Selections Winner and is grown as much for its decorative appeal as for its culinary value. Growing to a height of around 60 to 75cm (24 to 30in), it makes a nice container choice as well as accent plantings in the herb garden. It also makes a great ornamental plant in the flower bed or as a border plant and bees love the blossoms.
